Safe Ministry Statement
Our Commitment
The Anglican Parish of Cobargo, Bermagui and Quaama is committed to providing safe and respectful spaces for ministry that are to God’s glory across all our worship centres and the OK Shed Op Shop, spaces that are abuse-free and harm-free for all. Everything we do is centred on Christ’s commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart and all our soul and all our mind and all our strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. We see the reflection of Christ in every human being and, as such, all are welcome to worship in our parish without fear of judgement or harassment.
Background
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse handed down their final report in 2017. The Royal Commission exposed issues with the way the church accepted volunteers and trained people to protect children. The diocese has responded to this and is proactively updating their policies and giving assistance to parishes.
Safe Ministries Training
The Parish Administration Ordinance states Parish Council, in partnership with the Bishop and the Rector, are responsible for the ministry and mission of the parish. All Parish Council must successfully complete the Safe Ministry Screening and Training requirements.
The Parish Council is committed to ensure that church workers (including paid and volunteers) complete Safe Ministries training according to their role within a reasonable time frame of their appointment.
